Tools at a glance
| Tool | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
brief | Analyst summary — pulse + top stories + winners/losers + heatmap | Summarize a scope (theme/country/sector) |
theme_summary | Pre-composed brief for one megatrend theme | "What's the EV theme doing?" |
search_news | Semantic search across all articles | Finding news by topic or event |
news_feed | Filtered article feed by direction/aspect/country | Following a live filtered stream |
stock_impact | News that moved a specific ticker | "What news hit NVDA this week?" |
:::note Coverage window News coverage starts 2026-01-01. Older date ranges return nothing — that's no coverage, not "nothing happened." Price and volatility history goes back decades. :::
brief — Analyst summary for any scope
The highest-level news tool. Instead of a list of articles, it returns a composed picture: a sentiment pulse timeseries, the top stories that drove it, an aspect heatmap (which channels — tariff, demand, regulation — are active), winners and losers, and top entities.
Use this when the question is "how is X doing?" for a scope — a theme, country, sector, or any combination.
| Scope filter | What to pass |
|---|---|
megatrend | A theme node id (resolve via find_megatrend) |
gics | A 2–8 digit GICS sector code (resolve via find_gics) |
country | ISO-2 code(s), e.g. US or JP,KR,TW |
news_type | One of the 19 news categories |
aspect | Impact channel: demand, tariff, regulation, monetary, etc. |
window | 7d, 30d, 90d, 180d, 1y, mtd, qtd, ytd |
At least one scope filter is required. Combine them to AND-filter: gics=4010 + country=US,GB,DE = brief on banking in three markets.
:::info Cost
brief costs 15 credits — it bundles ~5 sub-queries server-side into one call.
:::
:::caution Not for a single company or index
For "how is NVDA doing?" or "how is the S&P doing?" — use asset_pulse instead. brief is for a scope (theme, sector, country), not a specific ticker.
:::
theme_summary — Pre-composed theme brief
Accepts a theme name in natural language and returns a full brief for that megatrend: pulse, top entities, aspect heatmap, and ripple to related themes. The name is resolved for you — no node id needed.
Example prompts:
- "What's the AI infrastructure theme doing?"
- "Summarize the EV supply chain this month"
- "How's the stablecoin theme looking?"
Optional country scopes to one market; window adjusts the time horizon (7d / 30d / 90d / 1y / mtd / qtd / ytd).
search_news — Semantic article search
Finds articles by meaning, not keyword match. Works across all covered asset classes — stocks, FX, crypto, commodities, and private companies. Multilingual: the query can be in any language.
Example prompts:
- "Find news about copper supply chain disruptions"
- "Search for Fed rate hike impact on emerging markets"
- "ข่าวทองคำ"
The response includes a match_quality field: strong, weak, or none. If quality is weak or none, the model should say MarketDX has no strongly relevant articles — not present them as evidence.
Optional filters: entity_type (narrow to stock/forex/crypto/commodity/private), from_/to (ISO date range), or window.
news_feed — Filtered article stream
A filtered feed of impact-tagged articles. Unlike search_news (which finds by topic), news_feed filters by structured attributes: direction, impact channel, country, or theme.
Use this when you want a stream of a certain type of news — not a topic search.
Example prompts:
- "Show me negative tariff news on semiconductors"
- "What regulation news is hitting European banks?"
- "Macro news that moved stocks in Japan this month"
Key filters: megatrend, country, aspect, direction (pos/neg/ambiguous), news_type, window.
Near-duplicate stories are merged by default (one row per event with a dup_count). Pass collapse=false for the raw feed.
stock_impact — How news moved a specific ticker
Per-article news impact for one company or asset. Each article comes with a direction, an aspect (the channel: demand, tariff, technology, etc.), and a plain-language why explanation.
Works for stocks, commodities (GOLD.COMM), ETFs, crypto, and bonds/rates.
Example prompts:
- "What news hit TSMC this week?"
- "What's driving the selloff in Palantir?"
- "Show me the negative news on gold this month"
Key params: ticker (use find_stock first if unsure), direction, window, limit (default 20 — heavily-covered assets have hundreds of articles).
:::tip Use asset_pulse for the full read
stock_impact is a drill-down tool. For a complete "how is X doing?" — price + news + options + peers in one call — use asset_pulse instead.
